George Clooney cast to play the Lone Ranger?

This was bound to happen. As we recently mentioned, Johnny Depp landed the ’sidekick’ role of Tonto in a new Jerry Bruckheimer remake of ‘the Lone Ranger.’ The fictional cowboy was invented for radio in the 1930s but is best known from the long-running 1950s TV serial, when he was played by Clayton Moore. The British tabloid The UK Sun claims that non other then George Clooney will play the Lone Ranger. Although the tabloid sounds pretty sure of this casting scoop, it’s also the typical ploy to speculate on high profile roles before they have been announced. Plus Clooney seems to cringe when anyone brings up his turn as Batman, so one wonders if he would play a masked super hero again. But an insider tells the tabloid: “George is very keen — he’s been trying to do a movie with Johnny for a long time.”
