Will and Jada Pinkett Smith both have new gigs
Will Smith who turned 40 yesterday isn’t over the hills as far as Warner Bros. bosses are concerned as the have asked him to reprise his I AM LEGEND character Robert Neville in a prequel to the 2007 blockbuster. Movie executives have greenlighted the film on the movie star’s birthday (Sept 25th), confirming Francis Lawrence will return as the director and D.B. Weiss will pen the script. Smith’s scientist character was killed in the last film. The prequel will give an account of the final days of humanity in New York before a man-made virus caused a plague that left Smith’s character the lone survivor among a mutated mob in the city.
And it’s not the only Will Smith action/sci-fi blockbuster set for a second outing – the birthday boy’s Hancock co-star Charlize Theron has hinted at a sequel. In a recent interview with MTV, the actress said, “If everybody’s on board, I would be an idiot (not to do it)… Riding the Will Smith train is a really nice train to ride.”
And Will’s wife Jada Pinkett is set to return to TV to play a hospital nurse. The actress will star in upcoming medical drama Time Heals. It will be her first regular TV role since she quit A Different World in 1993.
She’ll play a single mom who is the director of nursing at a North Carolina hospital, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The 37-year-old star will double as the new show’s executive producer.
