Rachel McAdams has been signed on to star alongside Robert Downey Jr. in Guy Ritchie’s film adaptation of Sherlock Holmes. Ritchie’s film will incorporate some elements of the Sherlock Holmes comics series, which painted the detective as more of a musclebound action hero who just happened to be far more brilliant than his peers. The Notebook actress has been cast as Holmes’ enigmatic love interest, Irene Adler, a character who appeared in Doyle’s 1891 “A Scandal in Bohemia.” While the character only appeared in that one story, McAdams’ personage would return for any possible sequel, according to Access Hollywood. Jude Law is allegedly in talks to play the detective’s sidekick, Dr. Watson, and production on the movie is slated to begin in London in October (08).
