Robert Wagner new autobiography reveals secret affair and so much of Hollywoods golden ageRobert Wagner has an autobiography “Pieces of My Heart,” coming out tomorrow (Sept. 23nd). The book written with Scott Eyman, looks like a terrific read if your into the golden years of Hollywood. Wagner’s life is very rich and he rubbed elbows and tells stories about many of Hollywoods’ most iconic stars.  He was mentored by Spencer Tracy and befriended by golden-era greats including Gary Cooper, James Cagney and Bette Davis. He dated everyone from Debbie Reynolds to Joan Collins.

Wagner has dazzled audiences as the star of TV hits including It Takes a Thief, Switch and Hart to Hart, and in over fifty films, including A Kiss Before Dying, The Pink Panther, The Towering Inferno, and most recently in the Austin Powers series.

As a teen Wagner caddied for Clark Cable and made his first film, at age 19, in an unbilled turn in a 1950 MGMer called “The Happy Years.” He had a relationship with Elizabeth Taylor, and a secretive four-year love affair during his early twenties with megastar Barbara Stanwyck, then in her mid-forties.

Sorry I don’t mean to make this sound like a book report just trying to remind of the kind of career Wagner had and the interesting slices of Hollywood studio life he covers.  You can do a test read of one of the chapters here to get some idea of the subject matter and writing style.

Wagner does apparently talks about about the sudden death of his life’s love, actress Natalie Wood. I have to admit I kind of went cold on Wagner after reading speculative accounts years ago implicating him in Natalie Wood’s tragic death.  But I am going to put those residual feeling aside because I think  this book is going to be a great read!
