Bill Gates commercials with Jerry Seinfeld canceled, but he’s still filthy rich

Those awful ads that feature Bill Gates and Jerry Seinfeld, and reveal how out of touch with consumers Microsoft is, are supposedly canceled. While Microsoft is adamant that Seinfeld has not been dropped because of the backlash to the ads from consumers, it is all a little too coincidental don’t you think?
The next set of ads are set to counter Apple’s very successful ‘I’m a PC’ advertising campaign. Taking a swipe at Apple, the Microsoft campaign will use an engineer who resembles the “PC” character in Apple’s ads. In addition to television ads, Microsoft will extend the campaign into print ads and outdoor ads. The next phase of its high-profile Windows Vista advertising campaign, will feature other personalities, including author Deepak Chopra, actress Eva Longoria and musician Pharrell Williams. Much is riding on the $300 million campaign: Vista is the latest version of Windows, Microsoft’s largest revenue and profit generator, yet it was dogged by early technical problems and lackluster reviews.
Even so for the fifteenth time in a row, Bill Gates has been named the #1 richest person in our country. The Microsoft CEO is worth $57 million, coming out on top for the 27th edition of the Forbes 400. Warren Buffet, CEO of Berkshire Hathaway, came in at number two with a net worth of $50 billion.
