Nicole Kidman in action adventure
20th Century Fox has reportedly picked up “The Eighth Wonder,” an action-adventure with Nicole Kidman attached to star and produce. Laurence Mark also is producing. Simon Kinberg will write the script in the fall.
Details are sketchy but the story centers on an archeological discovery that sets off a globe-spanning race. The goal is to create a movie that will be to “Raiders of the Lost Ark” what the “Bourne” movies are to James Bond movies: a character-driven, treasure-hunting thriller.
Kidman and Kinberg nearly worked on “Mr. & Mrs. Smith,” which the scribe wrote and the actress was to have starred in. When Nicole dropped out because of scheduling reasons, the two have looked for something to work on together. Kinberg cooked up the new idea with Fox, he brought in Kidman.
Kidman next stars in the Fox extravaganza, “Australia,” with Hugh Jackman which opens Nov. 26.

Kirsten Dunst looking to scare us (on the big screen this time)
“A Jealous Ghost,” which Kirsten Dunst is starring in and producing is moving forward. Screenwriter Megan Holley, who adapted the A.N. Wilson novel, is doing another short pass on the script before Vantage hopes to push it into production.
Wilson’s 2005 novel describes a young American woman who travels to London to write a dissertation on Henry James’ classic ghost tale, “The Turn of the Screw,” only to find that her own circumstances begin to reflect the strange happenings of the story.
This literary horror project could be a priority for the newly reconstituted Vantage, which is looking to reshape its image. In July, the specialty division’s marketing, physical production and distribution departments were woven into those of Paramount proper, and the staff was requisitely streamlined. Its next film, the Keira Knightley starrer “The Duchess,” bows Friday.
Ben Forkner, Eric Kranzler and Daniel Rappaport of Film 360, the production arm of Management 360, are producing.
Gonzalo Lopez-Gallego is reportedly now on board to direct the Paramount Vantage project. A writer and editor as well, Lopez-Gallego made several short films before he co-wrote and directed “King of the Hill,” a feature that has been touring the festival circuit since last year.
