Miley Cyrus to star in Disney film designed to show her acting chops

While Miley Cyrus has been in the spotlight most recently for dating 20-year-old Justin Gaston — a sexy underwear model and aspiring singer, there are other signs that the 15-year-old is growing up fast. Miley is set to star in an untitled Disney film based on an upcoming novel by author Nicholas Sparks, Variety reports. The project came about after a Disney exec met with their teen star, who is looking to broaden her image and transitioning to adult fare. The Hannah Montana star used Mandy Moore’s A Walk to Remember – a film adaptation of Sparks’ 1999 novel – as a model of the type of project she hoped to work on next.
So Disney went to Sparks, who came back with a premise for a novel that intrigued Cyrus, her family and the producers. They are keeping the plot under wraps, but look for a story that touches on family and romance, where Miley will only act (no singing) in the Sparks drama.
Sparks is writing the book and the screenplay simultaneously. The book will be published in fall 2009 by Grand Central Publishing. Miley’s mother, Tish, will serve as the film’s executive producer.
