Johnston & Murphy pulls the plug on David Duchovny ads

Fantasy bleeding into reality didn’t suit high end shoe retailer Johnston & Murphy. They fashion retailer quickly took down a poster featuring David Duchovny, after the Californication star admitted himself to rehab for his sexual addiction, a couple of days ago.
In July, the company hired Duchovny, who plays a sex-obsessed writer in “Californication,” to appear in ads breaking this month nationwide. A spokesman for the Nashville, the Tennessee-based company said at the time, “We are thrilled. David embodies success and confidence, along with a great sense of style, communicating the ideal image for the Johnston & Murphy brand.”
The X-Files actor was featured prominently in the shoe giant’s window of its Madison Avenue store in New York, before the plug was quickly pulled. Duchovny has been married since 1997 to actress Tea Leoni, with whom he has a nine-year-old daughter and a six-year-old son. FOX News reports Duchovny didn’t check into rehab because of any affairs, just some self gratifacation. A “friend” of David’s says he was addicted to porn and was frequenting the internet. The friend also said that he only announced he was in rehab for sex addiction because a patient at the clinic he’s in was about to leak the story to the press. Do you think Johnston & Murphy over-reacted to the actor checking himself into rehab to deal with his sexual urges? Or is just something they had to do to protect their image?
