Jack Osborne to do Ozzy Osbourne documentary to defend his reputation

Let me say I was a Black Sabbath fan back in the day. And I saw this story today and it kind of made me chuckle. Apparently Ozzy Osborne’s son Jack is trying to repair the perceived damage he thinks the reality TV show The Osbournes, did to his father’s reputation by gathering some friends and executive producing his own Ozzy documentary. And that also means taking a swipe at the MTV reality show that put his family back on the map. Jack tells Rolling Stone magazine:
“I think The Osbournes, to a degree, tarnished the public’s perception of my dad as a bit of a senile, funny, bumbling guy. Yeah, my dad can be that guy, but it’s not [all of] him. ”
No doubt Ozzy was and is a talented man. He came from humble surroundings in Birmingham,England and left school at 15. The “Godfather of Heavy Metal,” is a rock musical legend, but I think Ozzy would tell you himself he is no rocket scientist. And years of drug and alcohol abuse have taken their toll.
Now Jack is supposedly trying to rejuvenate his dad’s rocker legacy with a film memoir. He has recruited his own friends and his dad’s former bandmates to contribute to a documentary he began shooting in January.
Ozzy is dyslexic (that’s why he left school early) and “refused to do a book,” Jack adds. “So this is more like a talking book, a really thorough autobiography.”
Jack insists though this will be an honest look at Ozzy’s life.
“My dad’s not an idiot – he’s nothing short of a genius, in my opinion,” he explains. “He does have huge flaws, and we’re trying to really paint an honest picture of that.”
I can kind of see where Jack is coming from with all this. Perhaps over the 4 seasons of seeing the family shenanigans of the Osborne family, audiences perceive Ozzy as a bumbling character. But to me the show humanized Ozzy, and showed a softer eccentric side of a character often portrayed as a ‘biting the heads off bats drug crazed maniac’. So good for Jack for wanting to show the bright side of Ozzy. Somewhere between all of the caricatures of Ozzy, there is a man that broke new ground in music and had a very long successful career.
