A sneak peak at ‘next movie roles’ for Tom Cruise?
Tom Cruise is looking to revitalize his somewhat slumping movie career with a big hit and he may found the perfect vehicle. According to Hollywood Reporter, Cruise is currently in negotiations to play the title character in the remake of the French spy thriller “The Tourist.” Cruise has been considering the Spyglass Entertainment project as one of several potential next moves, and is likely to be the next project he tackles. The Tourist is an adaptation of the 2005 feature, which follows an American tourist used as a pawn in a spy game by a female Interpol agent.
Cruise’s career has been in a slump in recent months following delays on the release of his Nazi-fighting biopic “Valykrie,”the poor showing of Lions for Lambs, and a slow-starting slate at his United Artists label. He was also recently replaced by Angelina Jolie in the reconfigured drama “Edwin A. Salt.”
Cruise is also considering starring in the Working Title comedy “Food Fight.” Food Fight is a warmhearted comedy about a snooty New York chef who is forced to cook meals at a school cafeteria, with Cruise playing the role of the chef. This would mark a departure for Cruise, who has made few comedies since his breakout role in 1983′s “Risky business”. However his recent comedic turn in “Tropic Thunder,” where Cruise plays an overweight, over-the-top studio exec is described as a movie-stealing performance.
