Misty May-Treanor And Kerri Walsh’s Presidential Olympic experience

President Bush, who’s in Beijing to apparently just watch the Olympic Games, made a surprise visit to the beach volleyball venue to have a chat with the defending gold medalists Misty May-Treanor And Kerri Walsh. The president a former college cheerleader, baseball owner, and current sports enthusiast is clearly enjoying his visit to the Olympic games.
Misty and Kerri asked if he would play a little “pepper,” a warm-up drill bumping the volleyball back and forth. Bush initially tried to steer clear, replying “No, I’m a pretty good spectator.” But after watching the bikini-clad players for a few minutes, they eventually drew him on to the court. Before moving over to see the men practice, May-Treanor jokingly bent over and offered Bush a chance to give her a spank on her rear — a custom in many sports for players to offer each other encouragement. Instead, he playfully used the back of his hand to tap her on the small of her back.
On a side note Kerri Walsh who is married to another professional volleyball player Casey Jennings, lost her wedding ring during Sunday morning’s winning match against Japan. According to the AP report, Walsh went up for a block at some point during the match and the ring flew off her hand. Fortunately, some broadcasters noticed what had happened, and were able to go back to the tape to show officials where they thought the ring might be.
Even with the video assistance, finding the ring amongst 17,000 tons of sand wasn’t going to be an easy process. Especially when you consider that during each match, volunteers rake the sand to make the playing surface a little smoother, so that ring could have gone anywhere. After the day’s matches had finished, volunteers combed the area with metal detectors until they located the missing band.
