Christina Applegate stricken with breast cancer

36-year-old Christina Applegate has been diagnosed with breast cancer. According to Christina’s rep in statement made Saturday, the cancer was diagnosed early and is treatable. Here is the statement which comes via People Magazine:
“Christina Applegate was diagnosed with an early form of breast cancer. Benefiting from early detection through a doctor ordered MRI, the cancer is not life threatening.
Christina is following the recommended treatment of her doctors and will have a full recovery. No further statement will be issued at this time.”
It’s been a tough last couple of months for the Samantha Who? Emmy nominee actress who lost a former boyfriend, Lee Grivas, who died in early July, of a drug overdose.
Somewhat ironically last month it was announced that Christina will participate with Jennifer Aniston, Scarlett Johansson, Meryl Streep, Sally Field and Charlize Theron in the Sept. 8 telethon Stand Up to Cancer, to be simultaneously broadcast on CBS, NBC and ABC. Assuming Christina is able to appear, her presence on the telethon will be extra poignant.
Christina’s mom is a breast cancer survivor. Because of that, Christina became a spokesperson for Lee National Denim Day, a fundraiser to benefit Women’s Cancer Programs.
