Kelsey Grammer nearly died after heart attack

Remember a while back (seven weeks ago) that actor Kelsey Grammer was reported to have had a mild heart attack? Well that’s what we were lead to believe because his spokesman Stan Rosenfield said it was a mild heart attack but declined to give further details of Grammer’s condition or medical treatment. Well the apparent truth was Kelsey nearly died from that heart attack last month, and his heart actually stopped. The Frasier star told Entertainment Tonight, that it started when he felt chest pains while paddle-boarding with his wife in Hawaii, where they have a second home, and was taken to hospital, where he was found to have suffered a heart attack. He told the news program in an interview to be aired on Thursday evening:
“They had to blast me twice and get me started all over again. I did think: ‘Oh gosh, I have got to hang on. I’ve got too much junk I’ve got to take care of. I’ve got to take care of the family.
Grammer, who stars with Kevin Costner in the political comedy “Swing Vote” that opens August 1, said it felt “like somebody was actually trying to tear my chest apart with, like, the jaws of life.”
Grammer’s heart attack came three weeks after he learned that Fox network was canceling his sitcom “Back to You,” in which he played a pompous, womanizing TV news anchor opposite Patricia Heaton. The series lasted only one season.
“Obviously you play the hand you’re dealt, and it has been a very interesting hand lately; it has been tough,” he said.
Kelsey was so convinced he was dying, he said good-bye to his wife Camille.
He recalls, “Camille was patting my head and she said, ‘That’s when you looked up at me and said, ‘I’m going now,’ and then off I went.”
But something down deep kept the actor alive - and he heard his spirit talking to those on the other side.
He explains, “As I lay there dying, I (inner spirit) said to them, ‘Please, I cannot do this. I don’t wanna see anything, I don’t wanna see any light. I don’t wanna have any little adventures that make me wanna get out of this life. I wanna finish this life.’
“And so, when I went down, I saw nothing. When I came to… the only voice that came to me was, ‘The light is here.’”
Grammer feels lucky to be alive after learning just how close he came to death.
He adds, “(My doctor) said, ‘You know, guys in your position, 15 per cent make it - so you’re lucky you’re out of here.’ So I’m really glad I’m here.”
