Meryl Streep slams stars for selling baby pictures to media
Legendary actress Meryl Streep who is busy doing press tour duty for her new movie Mamma Mia! was asked what she thought of celebrity parents who sell pictures of their newborn children for cash.
Streep said she is appalled hearing about so many stars today bargaining for media cash over baby photos – even if the cash is for charity. In recent months, Hollywood moms including Jessica Alba, Jamie-Lynn Spears and Jennifer Lopez have released exclusive photos of their newborns in financial agreements with celebrity magazines. And soon Angelina Jolie’s twins will likely show up soon on the cover of the winning bidder’s magazine cover for a record amount of $15 million or more.
Steep a mother-of-four herself though insists children’s privacy is too valuable to sell snapshots to the highest bidder. She says,
“One thing I learned very early on is when you’re famous, you lose your right to privacy. And, if you promote your children, if you have them photographed, then they lose their rights. “But, if you do not have them photographed and (do not) sell them to OK! magazine, they have the right to… privacy and citizenship.
“They (paparazzi) can follow me, take a picture, whatever they want to do. My kids, no.”

Its becoming another “hot trend” among celeb mommas.
The paps will fight even harder to get the baby photos the first time you’ve got him/her out in a baby stroller, pushing, shoving, yelling, flashbulbs going off. Far better for the celebrity to be in control of the photos, not the paps who will sell to the highest bidder. The money Brad and Angelina will get is considerable and will ease the suffering of a lot of desperate, starving people.
In principle that is a great idea but the paps will take pics anyway especially of Jolie-Pitts so they may as well sell them in a controlled way. Also, I wonder if Meryl Streep would be saying this if her babies were in poverty and the money from photos donated to charity was a lifeline to her children….would she refuse it on principle then? I doubt it she can only speak this way because she is priviliged but she is also very lucky because no-one is interested in seeing photos of her children and no-one is interested in camping outside her house to get shots.
