Robert Downey Jr. to star in new movie as Sherlock Holmes

Robert Downey Jr. to star in new movie as Sherlock HolmesIron Man star Robert Downey Jr. has reportedly elected to commit to playing Sherlock Holmes, which Guy Ritchie plans to direct for Warner Bros.

Variety reports that Downey, who had shown early interest in the flick, decided to take up mystery solving after Ritchie showed him the Anthony Peckham-penned script rewrite.

This is a nice turn of events for Ritchie and the studio after rival Columbia Pictures, recently announced their own film Judd Apatow inspired Sherlock Holmes flick with Sacha Baron Cohen and Will Ferrell set to star as Holmes and Dr. Watson.

Ritchie’s film will incorporate some elements of the Sherlock Holmes comics series, which painted the detective as more of a muscly action hero who just happened to be far more brilliant than his peers—and, most importantly, his adversaries. So it sounds like Robert Downey Jr. will go from one comic book super hero to another.

Filming is set to begin in October with an eye on a 2010 release date.

He suits for that role the best! It would be great watching him again as a new face of Mr. Holmes.

Look at his eyes, his smile. I love this amazing guy. His personal ad is still available at that millionaire dating site Richromances.com where celebrities and wealthy singles are hooking up. Is he looking girls?
