Matthew McConaughey and Camila Alves welcome birth of son

It’s raining babies in celebrity land. Matthew McConaughey and girlfriend Camila Alves have welcomed a son Monday night. It is the first child for both and was born at 6:22 p.m. in Los Angeles, weighing in at 7 lbs., 4 oz.
In January the former Sexiest Man Alive announced the couple were expecting on his reggae website. “Camila and I made a baby together…,” he wrote at the time. “We are stoked and wowed.”
Alves, a model and handbag designer, recently told PEOPLE she plans to take time off once the baby arrives. “More important than anything is that I have a peaceful life and a peaceful home,” she said.
And while this may cut into the McConaughey’s time for trips to Nicaragua and lazy days on the beach with partying with his surf buddies, the Sahara star sounds more than ready to embrace fatherhood.
“A healthy baby boy was born,” McConaughey said tonight in a statement to OK! magazine.
“Camila and I were side by side the entire time. We are both tired and elated, and are so happy to have created the greatest miracle in the world—Having a child and making a family. Now comes the greatest adventure—raising one, together.“
