Sydney Pollack has passed away.

The legendary film director (Tootsie, Out of Africa, The Way We Were) passed away at his Pacific Palisades home on Monday after losing a battle to cancer.  The filmmaker, a two-time Oscar-winner, was 73.  Pollack recently worked with George Clooney on Michael Clayton, which Pollack acted in and helped produce, and Leatherheads, which he executive produced.  Pollack, as a producer, likewise was busy, and  had a number of films in the offing, including The Reader, an upcoming Ralph Fiennes-Kate Winslet romantic drama.  He will be sorely missed in Hollywood.
