2008 Cannes Film Festival opens with “Blindness”
Posted on May 14th, 2008 by SusanBlindness opened the Cannes film festival on Wednesday, kicking off 12 hectic days of movies, publicity and late-night revelry in the Riviera resort.
Directed by Brazil’s Fernando Meirelles, of City of God renown is an adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning writer Jose Saramago’s novel. Blindness is a story about a doctor’s wife (Julianne Moore) who becomes the only person with the ability to see in a town where everyone is struck with a mysterious case of sudden blindness. She feigns illness in order to take care of her husband as her surrounding community breaks down into chaos and disorder.
