2008 Cannes Film Festival opens with “Blindness”
Blindness opened the Cannes film festival on Wednesday, kicking off 12 hectic days of movies, publicity and late-night revelry in the Riviera resort.
Directed by Brazil’s Fernando Meirelles, of City of God renown is an adaptation of Nobel Prize-winning writer Jose Saramago’s novel. Blindness is a story about a doctor’s wife (Julianne Moore) who becomes the only person with the ability to see in a town where everyone is struck with a mysterious case of sudden blindness. She feigns illness in order to take care of her husband as her surrounding community breaks down into chaos and disorder.
