“90210″ spinoff takes the “something old”, “something new” approach

Posted on May 12th, 2008 by Hot Momma

The “90210″ spinoff is expected to be the central piece of the CW network’s “upfront” programming presentation to advertisers in mid-May. 90210,” is using the traditional formula of a spinoff, featuring a character or two, from the original series to garner a larger audience.
Jennie Garth joined the cast of the CW’s “Beverly Hills, 90210″ spinoff as a recurring character, reprising her role as Kelly Taylor from the original series.

In the new show, Garth’s character Kelly plays a guidance counselor at her alma mater, West Beverly Hills High. Garth, has also starred on WB Network’s “What I Like About You” and on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars.” Speculation started about a possible stint on the new “90210″ after she departed the CBS comedy pilot “My Best Friend’s Girl” in April.

But now Nikki Finke reports that the other shoe has dropped, and Tori Spelling will be back as Donna Martin.  A few weeks ago, Tori said that she would love to join the show. She said, “every show needs a MILF.” Now the new show might have two for your viewing pleasure!  Perhaps they can kill off both characters in the pilot?  A win-win for everyone I say.

Anyway Tori told People  in anticipation of being brought back:

My dad always wanted to do a new version of 90210, so I’m sure he will be beaming from above! And I’d love to somehow be a part of it. That as well would make my dad proud! I am a mom now, proud to say, but obviously too young to have a teenager, so maybe I could be one of the main character’s young stepmom. Playing the funny sex ed teacher at the high school would be funny, too, considering Donna Martin was America’s most infamous virgin.”
