Barbara Walters confesses to Oprah Winfrey that she had an affair with a married US Senator for several years in the 70′s. Holy smokes Bah-Bwah-Wah-Wah!

In an episode scheduled to air on Tuesday Barbara revealed her lover to be Senator Edward Brooke, a moderate Republican from Massachusetts who took office in 1967. Brooke was the first African-American to be popularly elected to the Senate.

Scandalous! She was dating a REPUBLICAN???Walters said she was ‘infatuated’ by Brooke: “He was exciting. He was brilliant. It was exciting times in Washington.” But they knew that public knowledge of their affair could have ruined both their careers.

Her affair with the senator, which is just now ‘going public’, had ended before he lost his bid for a third term in 1978.
