Leah Remini – new candidate for mother of the year?

Actress Leah Remini’s persona on “The King of Queens” may have been tough, but in real life she seems to be a total pushover for her daughter. Leah and her husband have a four-year-old daughter who is still drinking up to six bottles a night and wearing diapers. For some reason, Leah invited Rachael Ray and of course the cameras to visit her home and see what goes on with her daughter, Sofia Bella. Leah tells Rachael:
“I’m very consistent; I give in. My daughter runs the house.
Leah is “conflicted,” she’d like to try getting Sofia off the bottles, but can’t deal with the hysterics. But by not dealing with the situation it leaves her and her husband Angelo exhausted from preparing new bottles and changing diapers at all hours. Leah also recognizes there may be health and psychological issues in letting this situation go on.
“We’re hearing that it’s not good for her. In talking to our pediatrician, they almost fell off their chair when we said she’s still on the bottle. So I’m thinking maybe it’s not right.”
You think? The kid is a pre-schooler, being indulged as an infant. And why Leah thought it was a good idea to go on the Rachael Ray show and let cameras record the whole mess is puzzling. Oprah sorry I mean Rachael, puts Leah in touch with a pediatrician and a mom of three to give her some advice.
After her meeting with Dr. Ari, Leah and her husband Angelo decide to try and wean their daughter. They also get some pointers from one of Rachael’s viewers who is a mother of three. After the advice and pep talk they decide to take a stand, but only last a few hours before Sofia has a fit and the dotting parents cave:
“We’re definite pushovers and at the end of the day you have to follow your heart. Sofia was crying again for a bottle of milk and then I started crying I think because I felt so bad. “It just doesn’t feel right for me to have a screaming baby and to say no to a bottle.”
Not easy watching your child cry. Do you sympathize with Leah, or is she just being a wimp?
