Dean Geyer and Veronicas singer Lisa Origliasso engaged

Former Australian Idol contestant Dean Geyer and Veronicas singer Lisa Origliasso  have announced their engagement.

The couple, who have shared a long distance relationship together for a year, released a statement today to announce their joyous news.

Origliasso, 23, and Geyer, 22, met at the ARIA Awards in 2006, when The Veronicas fronted by Lisa and her twin sister Jess, won the best pop release for their debut album The Secret Life Of…

The Veronicas have since released their second album Hook Me Up, which produced the number one hit of the same name.

Geyer appears in the new Veronicas video “This Love”.

Origliasso and Geyer recently attended the MTV Awards together on Saturday, where The Veronicas took home the Australian artist music gong.

South African-born Geyer finished third on the  Australian Idol in 2006, and received much attention for being a proud virgin as part of his Christian beliefs.

Geyer released his debut album, Rush, last year, and is now giving a turn to acting.

Last month, he joined the cast of the Australian soap Neighbours playing aspiring singer, Ty Harper.
