Miley Cyrus apologizes for newest controversial photos

Miley Cyrus apologizes for newest controversial photos 15-year-old Miley Cyrus has done a racy, as-yet unreleased Vanity Fair photo shoot in which she appears to be topless but covered in a sheet. This follows on the heels of her latest provocative photos here that circulated on the Internet last week. Miley has now issued statements of apology for both incidents, starting first with the internet photos:

“The pictures of me on the Internet were silly, inappropriate shots. I appreciate all the support of my fans, and hope they understand that along the way I am going to make mistakes and I am not perfect. I never intended for any of this to happen and I am truly sorry if I have disappointed anyone.

“Most of all,” she says, “I have let myself down. I will learn from my mistakes and trust my support team. My family and my faith will guide me through my life’s journey.”

I can’t help thinking that this apology is a little late and only comes after the second controversy erupted with Vanity. The Vanity Fair pictures were shot by famous photographer Annie Leibovitz. After a big reaction to the photos, Miley issued an apology for the latest internet scandal and a further statement in regards to the Vanity pictures saying they were meant to be “artistic.”

She said:

“I took part in a photo shoot that was supposed to be ‘artistic’ and now, seeing the photographs and reading the story, I feel so embarrassed. I never intended for any of this to happen and I apologize to my fans who I care so deeply about.”

Disney who I am guessing hit the roof about these two incidents, issued a strong statement putting blame on the magazine for taking advantage:

“Unfortunately, as the article suggests, a situation was created to deliberately manipulate a 15-year-old in order to sell magazines.”

Well Disney is not going to come out publicly and say so, but I think they also probably read the riot act to their wonderkin and her parents before Miley issued her apologies.

Meanwhile Vanity Fair told the New York Times that her parents were on set the entire time and even saw the pictures.

“Miley’s parents and/or minders were on the set all day. Since the photo was taken digitally, they saw it on the shoot and everyone thought it was a beautiful and natural portrait of Miley.”

Miley also told Bruce Handy, the journalist interviewing her, that she loved the photograph. Miley told him, “Annie took, like, a beautiful shot, and I thought it was really cool. That’s what she wanted me to do, and you can’t say no to Annie. I think it’s really artsy. It wasn’t in a skanky way.”

Meanwhile a source told People Magazine that Miley’s parents left before the controversial shot was taken. Annie supposedly convinced Miley’s grandmother and her teacher who were still present that the shot was going to be artistic. Her parents are said to be mortified.

They know this is a learning moment for Miley. The photo suggests that she is [naked], but she is not. She is covered by a sheet, and beneath the sheet she is clothed. Originally, she was in a flesh-colored tank top but was asked to remove it.”

I think there is enough blame to go around for all parties to share.
