File this one under probably a bad idea. Madonna reportedly wants to revive her luke warm acting career with a daring remake of the classic film Casablanca. The rock hall of fame pop singer is said to believe the film will make her reputation as an actress, after a string of high-profile flops such as Shanghai Surprise, Body Of Evidence and Swept Away, her much-derided 2002 collaboration with husband Guy Ritchie. 

A source at a major Hollywood studio that was recently approached by the 49-year-old star said:

“Madonna and her people are testing the waters to see if this is the right vehicle for her and if a major studio will get behind the project.”

The singer, is supposedly planning to play the lead role of Ilsa Lund, which originally made a star of Ingrid Bergman.   Bergman was in her 20s when she played Ilsa and Madonna is nearly 50.  In the 1942 original, Bergman starred opposite Humphrey Bogart, who played Rick Blaine, a cynical bar owner in the Moroccan city of Casablanca in the early days of the Second World War. Ilsa is torn between love for her husband, a Czech Resistance leader, and her ex-lover Rick.  For the modern remake Madonna plans to set it in war-torn Iraq.

The Hollywood studio source continued with:

“She and her representatives have been touting around a project which is a remake of Casablanca. The reception has been lukewarm to say the least. No one can understand why she wants to redo what many people consider the greatest film of all time.”

 Actress Anna Friel was out enjoying the LA sunshine yesterday, taking two-year-old daughter Gracie for a stroll in her buggy.

The busy actress took a break from filming the black comedy Pushing Daisies.

Friel, 31, who lives with actor David Thewlis, has a six-year contract on the hit black comedy Pushing Daisies, in which she plays a murdered woman brought back to life by her childhood sweetheart.

Patrick Swayze has taken to the skies in a bid to fly away his cancer woes. News of the Dirty Dancing star’s battle with pancreatic cancer broke earlier this month, and he is currently undergoing treatment.

As well as flying from their home to Stanford University Medical Center, where Swayze is being treated, the licensed pilot is also enjoying pleasure flights.

To take his mind off his health crisis Swayze and his wife Lisa Niemiby takeoff for long flights around California and Nevada, according to OK! magazine.

A source tells the magazine that the actor and his wife recently spent 11 hours in their 11-seat Beechcraft Super King Air 200, flying to various sites and citie.

The source says, “Being able to do what they love most, and do it together, is helping them to remain as optimistic as possible.

This is one of those family secrets that should have stayed as such. However some members of Heath Ledgers family allegedly believe the late actor may have fathered a secret love child, and have blabbed it to the press.

Australia’s Daily Telegraph reports that Heath had an affair with an older woman when he was just 17-years-old and in school with an older women of 25 at the time. The short liason perhaps resulted in a pregnancy,  but the women was living with another man at the time and they raised the child (a daughter) as their own, although there were suspicions about the child’s father.  Heath’s uncle, Haydn Ledger who was the only one to go on record by name, yesterday confirmed there was a “real possibility” his nephew had fathered a girl with the woman.
If Heath had another living child other than his daughter Matilda Rose with Michelle Williams, his estate would be split perhaps in half.

Why would Haydn Ledger bring this family secret to the press? Well, there is a big dispute about Heath’s estate which father Kim controls much to the dismay of his brothers, Hadyn, Mike and Wayne. Kim who was once the executor of their grandfather’s (Sir Frank Ledger) will 20 years ago, borrowed heavily against the $2 million estate, and eventually left it heavily in debt, before he was removed as executor by the Western Australia Supreme Court in 1994. 
 Heath’s parents Kim Ledger and Sally Bell yesterday refused to comment on the latest scandal.

Celebrity chef and and Today show contributor Giada De Laurentiis and husband Todd Thompson welcomed their first child, a healthy baby girl, on Saturday. Little Jade Marie De Laurentiis Thompson came into the world weighing in at 5lbs, 13oz.”

This is the first child for Giada 37,the Food Network star of “Everyday Italian,” and her husband of 4 years, Todd Thompson, 44, a clothing designer.

Amy Winehouse’s incarcerated husband Blake Fielder-Civil who has already overdosed in prison has recently been beaten black and blue according to reports. The News of the World reports that a group of fellow inmates jumped him, because they thought he had heroin on him. A pretty good assumption based on past behavior, since  Blake has been busted for heroin a few times already while serving his time, so the inmates figured he was carrying something. Blake is now sporting a black eye but is said not to be seriously injured.

The source went on to say, “There have been lots of threats and for a long time he just kept himself confined to his cell—he’ll be staying there a lot more now.”

 Hannah Montana star Miley Cyrus took two awards for favorite female singer and television actress at Nickelodeon’s Kids’ Choice Awards Saturday.

The 15-year-old singing and acting phenom, who had a No. 1 movie in February, also performed her song “Girls Night Out” during the show.

It was also a slime spectacle for the Nickelodeon children’s television network, which broadcast the 21st annual show live from UCLA’s Pauley Pavilion in front of 10,000 screaming fans, almost all of them teens and preteens.

Harrison Ford was slimed onstage during  the slime spectacle for the Nickelodeon children’s television network.   Supermodel Heidi Klum, also got in on the fun, hooking up to a bungee cord and wearing a specially equipped “butt spike belt,” she flung herself into a wall covered with slime-filled balloons.

Teen heartthrob Drake Bell was another double winner, collecting his third consecutive orange blimp-shaped trophy for favorite TV actor and another for favorite TV show for “Drake and Josh.”

Jessica Alba won the gong for favorite movie actress at the awards, which were determined by 88 million votes on Nickelodeon’s website.

“I love Nickelodeon! I wore green today in honor of the slime,” Alba — who’s expecting her first child with fiance Cash Warren — said. “I love making movies for you all.”

Cameron Diaz was presented with the Wannabe Award, which recognizes a celebrity role model. She asked the audience of preteens to say, “We are the future! And the future is bright!”

Chris Brown won for favorite male singer, the Jonas Brothers won for favorite music group and Ryan Seacrest accepted American Idol’s award for favorite reality show.

Ricky Martin has been a dedicated fighter in his cause to bring attention to child trafficking through his own Ricky Martin Foundation. On Saturday he went to Siem Reap, Cambodia, where he met with young victims of human trafficking that were used for sexual exploitation. The stories of these victims are truly heartbreaking, and highlight how incredibly important this cause really is. Martin also met with Interior Minister Sar Kheng and visited various projects run by non-governmental organizations fighting child trafficking and sexual exploitation.

Ricky Martin first learned about the horrors of child human trafficking in Cambodia when he attended a U.N. conference about it in February. Cambodia is perhaps the worst haven for child human trafficking in the world. But Martin said that Cambodia is a model for change, as they already have over 200 organizations devoted to eliminating the country of this horrible crime. Martin said he plans to take the information he learned in Cambodia home and use it to “motivate people, organizations, governments in Latin America.”
