Lauren Conrad backpedaling fast on US Weekly cover story

It seems that Us Weekly has either Lauren Conrad or Heidi Montag on its cover every week, with the same basic headline: “I was done wrong,”I Became Famous for Doing Nothing and Am Now Producing an Ugly Clothing Line.” Now Lauren Conrad is supposedly mad about a recent US Weekly magazine headline, which in big letters states that Lauren was “Betrayed by Brody and Audrina,” claiming the mag spun her spread into another “poor me” interview.
A source at Us Weekly said though that MTV execs loved the cover, and the storyline matched exactly what they’re promoting for the “Hills” season opener on March 24. Ok so mission accomplished. But then, allegedly Conrad’s best friend, Audrina freaked, when she read the article. She was having a “very bad week” (naked pictures) and supposedly “went into a rage/hissy fit.”
TMZ sources says Lauren, scared to lose her best friend and ally, posted the blog as an olive branch to Audrina.
LC’s rebuttal, posted on her MySpace page, says, “I don’t feel betrayed by Audrina and Brody … I value my friendships over magazine sales any day.”
She ends her blog plugging her show by saying “hope everyone tunes in on Monday.”
Problem is, Us Weekly is probably the only mag that cares enough to put Conrad on the cover. Lauren’s even admitted publicly that Us is responsible for the ratings success of the show. Talking a bunch of smack on her blog about the mag bites the hand that feeds her.
So, quickly backpedaling, Conrad has just issued the following statement, to clarify: “It was never my intention to criticize Us Weekly as I have a great relationship with them. My statement was only meant to support and stand by my friends.”
