Kirstie Alley plans to compete with Jenny Craig
Kirstie Alley and Jenny Craig may ’appear’ to have gone their separate ways amicably, but they may soon be competitors. Alley the one-time “Fat Actress” isn’t giving up on the weight loss industry just yet.
It seems that Alley and Jenny Craig split because they were unable to come to terms on a new contract after lengthy negotiations.
Â
Now Alley, 57, has told People that while her experience with Jenny Craig was “extraordinary,” she wants “to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride.”
Alley said she intends to develop her own weight-loss brand with plans to launch in 2009. Alley, who starred on Showtime’s reality-comedy series “Fat Actress,” became a spokeswoman for the Jenny Craig diet program in 2005.Â
“We are sorry that she did not accept our offer” to continue appearing in the company’s ad campaign, Scott Parker, vice president of marketing for Jenny Craig, told People. “We wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”
While both sides are saying all the right things about each other, it’s clear that their parting was somewhat acrimonious and they may soon be pitted as bitter rivals.
