Big break in the Natalee Holloway case?

Posted on January 31st, 2008 by Hot Momma

According to Aruban prosecutors, new evidence in the Natalee Holloway case may reveal how the 18-year-old died and “the method by which her body disappeared.”  The evidence was provided by Dutch crime reporter Peter R. de Vries, who claims to have taken a secret, hidden video of perpetual suspect Joran Van der Sloot confessing to the American high school student’s May 2005 murder.

Holloway disappeared in May 2005 during a trip to Aruba with her classmates. Joran van der Sloot and brothers Deepak and Satish Kalpoe have previously been arrested in Holloway’s case but were released due to insufficient evidence.

After his latest release, de Vries did a television interview with Van der Sloot earlier this month where the reporter challenged his honesty. Van der Sloot was calm during the interview, but after the cameras were turned off he threw a glass of wine in de Vries’ face.

The incident prompted de Vries to comment, “He doesn’t have complete control over his behavior.

De Vries had apparently been working undercover for months before getting Van der Sloot’s confession via what he called “an ingenious hidden camera tactic,” and immediately contacted the Aruban authorities to alert them to his new evidence, leading the officials to announce today that they were reopening the case.

De Vries had planned to reveal the video on a TV special on Sunday, but website Volkomen Kut was able to get a transcript of the program from de Vries’ personal website, beating him to his own exclusive.

The reporter also personally informed Natalee’s parents about the new development. Naturally Van der Sloot’s American lawyer, Joseph Tacopina, was openly skeptical about the de Vries video and thought it irresponsible of prosecutors to make any announcements like this without detailing the evidence.

“They act quite frankly like clowns,” he said in a statement to the AP. “If they have a resolution, they should bring a case and stop talking about cryptic information.”
