Tragically, Australian-born actor Heath Ledger, 28,  was found dead today in his downtown Manhattan residence. His housekeeper, discovered him in cardiac arrest and called 911, an NYPD spokesperson says.  Ledger’s body was said to be found face down, nude on his bed. There were no visible signs of any trauma.
He was apparently scheduled to have a massage in his apartment this afternoon. First reports speculate Ledger died from a suicide or an accidental overdose, as prescription bottles of pills were found near him including a bottle of Ambien.  He was pronounced dead today at 3:26 p.m.  An autopsy will likely be scheduled for tomorrow (Wednesday). 
Heath was well known for his roles in: “The Patriot,” “A Knight’s Tale,” and “Monster’s Ball.” He was also nominated for a Golden Globe for his role in “Brokeback Mountain,”  and he stars in the upcoming The Dark Knight Batman movie as the Joker.

He split last year from his partner, Michelle Williams, with whom he has a daughter, Matilda.
