Ike Turner died from Cocaine Overdose
Posted on January 16th, 2008 by Hot MommaIke Turner’s death last month was caused by a cocaine overdose, according to the The San Diego Medical Examiner’s office:”We are listing that h
e abused cocaine, and that’s what resulted in the cocaine toxicity,” chief investigator Paul Parker told the Associated Press.
The examiner’s report also cited “hypertensive cardiovascular disease and pulmonary emphysema” as contributors to the 76-year-old’s death on December 12.
Police found drug paraphernalia but no illegal substances when his body was found in his San Marcos home. Turner was famously portrayed by Laurence Fishburne in the 1993 film What’s Love Got to Do With It, and struggled with drug abuse his entire life, even serving jail time in 1989. Though he acknowledged his substance issues, he vehemently denied ever abusing ex-wife Tina Turner.
In recent years, Turner sought to ensure his legacy in a brighter light. He won his first Grammy Award in 2007 for Best Traditional Blues Album thanks to his Risin’ with the Blues LP. And in a 2000 appearance on VH1’s “Behind the Music,” Turner seemed to recognize his need to come to terms with his past difficulties.
