Dr. Phil to be Investigated by Psychology Board?

Dr. Phil to be Investigated by Psychology Board? A complaint against Dr. Phil McGraw has been reportedly filed with the California Board of Psychology, alleging the TV doc was illegally practicing without a license when he paid a visit to Britney Spears.  TMZ has obtained a copy of the complaint filed by a psychologist, who is apparently as outraged as many of us are with Dr. Phil’s actions. Allegedly Dr. Phil retired his Texas license in 2006, and has never been licensed to practice in California.

The shrink alleges that when Dr. Phil visited Brit in the hospital earlier this month, he was practicing psychology.
Here is where it gets interesting. If Dr. Phil sticks with the story that the visit was never meant to lure Britney onto the TV show … and that he was there only to counsel Unfitney on behalf of her parents … sounds to me like he was attempting to practice?

The psychologist who filed the complaint also alleges Dr. Phil violated HIPAA laws by “discussing or divulging a patient’s medical condition … with the media,” in reference to a press release issued by Dr. Phil.

Reportedly if the Board finds the complaint credible, it would be referred to the D.A. for review. Practicing without a license is a felony in California.  Sounds like a political hot potato for the D.A. so I half expect this complaint to die a quiet death.  But we will see!

The psychologist who filed the complaint is also said to be circulating a petition to other psychologists to ask the network to remove the “Dr. Phil” show from the air.”
