Broadway Play ‘Rent’ to close down

The Broadway production of Rent is coming to an end.  The musical, which is the seventh-longest-running show in Broadway history, will end its award-winning run at the Nederlander Theatre in June. 

Rent helped launched the careers of the likes of Taye Diggs, Wilson Jermaine Heredia, Jesse L. Martin, Idina Menzel, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Daphne Rubin-Vega.

The original cast members also included Gilles Chiasson, Rodney Hicks, Kristen Lee Kelly, Aiko Nakasone, Timothy Britten Parker, Gwen Stewart, Byron Utley and Fredi Walker-Browne.

Over the years the show has also seen its share of celebrity guests including Scary Spice, Drew Lachey, Neil Patrick Harris, Joey Fatone, Frenchie Davis, and Jai Rodriguez.

A 2005 film version of Rent, directed by Chris Columbus, featured most of the original Broadway cast but mostly bombed at the box office.
