People’s Choice awards – dumbed down more than usual

Despite the writer’s strike the show must go on for the Networks (when possible) and so the People’s Choice awards aired yesterday.  Queen Latifah hosted the “newsmagazine” style broadcast, on CBS. Two of the big winners of the night  were Johnny Depp and Reese Witherspoon, taking home Best Actor and Actress respectively. Celebrities made appearances by prerecorded acceptance speeches and vintage video clips, which were mostly montages of memorable moments. Here are some of the top winners (hardly any inspiring choices but that’s the nature of this particular award show):

Favorite Leading Lady – Drew Barrymore 

Favorite Leading Man – Joaquin Phoenix 

Favorite Movie – Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End 

Favorite Male TV Star – Patrick Dempsey 

Favorite Female TV Star – Katherine Heigl 

Favorite Female Singer – Gwen Stefani

Favorite Male Singer – Justin Timberlake

Favorite Group – Rascal Flatts
