Golden Globe Awards Show in serious jeapordy
Posted on January 5th, 2008 by Hot MommaThe fate of the Golden Globe Awards show was thrown in to question today as actors announced that they would not attend as long as the writers are on strike.
The bold decision by the actors to honor the picket line means no evening gowns, no borrowed jewels, no glamorous updos — no red carpet. Even worse? It could mean no show all together.
In a statement, Screen Actors Guild President Alan Rosenberg spoke on behalf of nominees such as George Clooney, Angelina Jolie, Johnny Depp and Julia Roberts, writing, “There appears to be unanimous agreement that these actors will not cross WGA picket lines to appear on the Golden Globe Awards as acceptors or presenters. We applaud our members for this remarkable show of solidarity for striking Writers Guild of America writers.”
NBC, which is carrying the awards ceremony is reluctant to let go, and announced today that the show must go on. Unfortunately without the actors showing up there is no show, sorry NBC.
The show’s organizers have made numerous attempts to dissuade writers from picketing their January 13 awards ceremony, in hopes of salvaging the show’s star power (the A-List Celebs). Now that they have been rejected for what appears to be the last time, the only thing that may be able to save the event is if NBC decides not to broadcast the awards. If the event is not broadcast then the awards could be handed out without the writers picketing. But since it’s really not about the awards as it is about star power to fuel audiences and make money it’s doubtful that will happen.
Here is a preview of the show NBC and TV Guide hope to have Sunday, Jan. 13th
