Britney Spears totally lost it on the way to hospital (you think?)

Britney Spears went “completely psycho” according to sources.  after she was taken to the hospital on a stretcher following a nearly three-hour custody standoff involving her young sons.

“They had to strap her down like a mental patient and she was going between laughing and hysterics,” the source adds, calling it “a total psychotic breakdown. She just went crazy.”

Another Spears pal said: “I guess she has good days and bad days – it’s mental instability. All she has is to think of something sad and she goes crazy.”

The mental instability may be an excellent call and BiPolar disorder comes to mind.  Life & Style magazine is reporting that Britney Spears blood tests at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center came back negative, despite earlier reports from police that she appeared to be under the influence of a substance when she was taken from her home after a custody dispute last night.

“Her blood test just came back, and, thank God, it was clean. There are no traces of drugs or alcohol of any kind,” a source close to the Spears family tells Life & Style.

This may indicate that her odd behavior was not the result of substance abuse, as early reports suggested!

Spears hospitalization has been designated a “special needs” patient, meaning “they have either overdosed or tried to commit suicide. Brit will be on a minimum of a 72-hour lock down for mental evaluation. In these cases hospital staff stay with these patients and monitor them constantly. “We watch them so they don’t hurt themselves and watch the people who come visit them to make sure they don’t pass anything to them.”

An insider at L.A.’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center said that nobody wanted to be Britney Spears’ monitor last night.

Meanwhile, Kevin Federline’s attorney, Mark Vincent Kaplan, is racing to court this morning, where he’ll ask that K-Fed get full custody of the kids – at least for now.
