Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt bring focus to Katrina kids’ health issues

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were in New Orleans to help The Children’s Health Fund focus attention on the more than 46-thousand children still displaced two and a-half years after hurricanes Katrina and Rita destroyed their homes.
Though the mood was light among the crowd, the tone of the topic at hand was dire and distressing.
The news conference at the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Charter School follows closely the release of a study that found that more than 46,000 children along the Gulf Coast are still struggling with mental health problems and other serious after effects of the 2005 hurricanes.
Jolie says her work as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees prompted her to get involved with the effort in New Orleans. And in her travels she has seen many children who feel defeated.
The difference in New Orleans, she says, is that the children “are feisty, fun and full of pride.”
Jolie says “it’s that kind of spirit that will help everyone get through this.”
Since the hurricanes, Pitt and Jolie have made New Orleans their home (near the French Market) and have been working to help the area recover.
