NBC newsmagazine Dateline, will return to prime time this Wednesday at 10:00 p.m. with a one-hour edition and on December 21 and 28 at 9:00 p.m. with two-hour editions. The Dateline shows will replace programming affected by the writers’ strike. Observers have expected the broadcast networks to lean more heavily on their news divisions in the event of a prolonged strike. The producers of the program are reportedly gearing up to produce as many as three hours a week of Dateline programs after the first of the year. ABC’s newsmagazine unit has several short series in the works, and CBS is prepared with fresh episodes of “48 Hours Mystery.”
