Quaids newborn twins fantastic - file lawsuit against Baxter Healthcare Corp.Dennis and Kimberly Quaid have filed a lawsuit against Baxter Healthcare Corp., the makers of the drug Heparin according to tmz.com.
The Quaid’s twins Zoe Grace and Thomas Boone 2-week-old at the time were mistakenly given a massive overdose, 1,000 times stronger than prescribed of the anti-coagulant drug last month.

Some great news though, the Quaid’s attorney says the twins “were very critical for a while,” but appear to have recovered and “everything looks good.” “Their (babies) condition is fantastic, they’re smiling… They’ve fully recovered from the accident and it’s doubtful they’ll suffer long-term effects from the overdose.
“The Quaids are very religious, and they believe their children’s recovery is a real miracle.” They filed suit because they want to prevent this from happening to any other children, Loggans said.

The 10 unit vial Heparin looks almost exactly as the 10,000-units-per-milliliter vial of the drug.

Three children died in Indiana from a similar mix-up with the drug.

I am actually surprised that the first lawsuit isn’t against the hospital  Cedars-Sinai who admitted culpability when they issued the following statement after the accident:
“This was a preventable error, involving a failure to follow our standard policies and procedures, and there is no excuse for that to occur at Cedars-Sinai,” said chief medical officer Michael L. Langberg.

I suspect that lawsuit is forthcoming.
