Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers are on for Super Bowl 2008

Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers have been chosen for the coveted musical spot to perform during the half-time extraveganza at the 2008 Super Bowl. The game will be played in Glendale, AZ on February 3 and will air on FOX. Petty will follow the likes of Paul McCartney, Shania Twain, Aerosmith, U2, THE Rolling Stones and Janet Jackson though this time wardrobe malfunctions are unlikely. The National Football League has taken over the staging of the show, formerly farmed out to MTV and other producers and gear toward acts that appeal to an older audience. Rock and Roll Hall of Famers Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers Petty & The Heartbreakers,are somewhat back in vogue thanks to Peter Bogdanovich’s acclaimed band documentary Running Down A Dream.  There will be a lot of people watching when they take to the stage,according to Billboard.com, nearly 140 million Americans watched Prince play at the the last Superbowl.
