Miss China - Zhang Zi Lin wins Miss World 2007

In a result that was not a big surprise, Zhang Zi Lin 23, was crowned as Miss World 2007 in Sanya, China. The former office secretary was a pre-contest favourite, edged out Miss Angola and Miss Mexico, who came in second and third place respectively (the three are pictured above). The other two finalists were Valene Maharaj from Trinidad & Tobago and Annie Oliv from Sweden.
During the interview stage of the contest, Zi Lin who was the tallest contestant in the competition declared her aspirations to become “a link between the Olympic Games (in Beijing in 2008) and the Miss World Organisation.” She added: “I want to use the power and beauty of Miss World to support those in need.”
aimed at increasing public awareness of the dangers of AIDS and HIV, in honor of World AIDS Day.
The 57th Miss World pageant was held in a tourist resort (Sanya) in southern China’s Hainan province, on World AIDS Day to raise awareness of the disease. Organisers invited former South African president Nelson Mandela’s eldest daughter, Maki, to serve on the judging panel.
