Jennie Garth’s eliminated from ‘Dancing With the Stars’ luckily

Jennie Garths eliminated from Dancing With the Stars luckilyI was sorry to see Jennie Garth go last night but the alternative could have been really damaging to ABC and DWS credibility.  DWS is a great tv show, and I like many people really find it very entertaining but the format for elimination is flawed.

Perhaps it was modeled off of American Idol where judging talent is quite subjective and picking a winner is a matter of taste and therefore should be a popularity contest. And remember with American Idol popularity is built up, not like a celebrity show where some of the contestants already have rabid fans before the show even starts like DWS. DWS is supposed to be a dance competition not a popularity contest .  The judges are supposed experts  on ballroom dancing, a sport of sorts that has very specific rules and standards built in.  Last night Marie Osmond was declared safe by popular vote (again) even though she had the lowest scores early in the show.  It came down to Jennie who had gotten some great scores on the last show but was behind two couples that had achieved perfect scores.   It was embarrrasing enough when Sabrina Bryan was eliminated a few weeks ago even though by all accounts she appeared to be be the best dancer at the time. Had Jennie’s popularity carried her into the finals, one of the perfect score couples would have been eliminated.  That would have been a slap in the face to the judges and to common sense.   DWS needs to create a more equitable system balancing the judges scores with the fans votes. Otherwise the show might as well get rid of the judges all together as they are merely for show.
