Paris’ New Home? Nice Jail, But Still Jail

Posted on April 30th, 2007 by Ellen

Friday is Paris Hilton’s court date in the proceedings of which, the heiress might find herself checking into a new kind of accommodations from what she is used to. But, as I learned in yesterday’s New York Times, it may not be as bad as we’re all picturing: California is one of a handful of states where you can pay to get better lodgings — yes, in prison!

You can’t just bring lots of cash, although that helps; depending on the prison, you have to apply in advance and meet a number of conditions (violent offenders and prisoners with a history of suicide attempts are not welcome). So what does $70-$100/day get you? In Fullerton, you can bring your own blanket and pillow, plus get food delivered (helloooo, Nobu!); in Seal Beach and Montebello, CA, you can bring your iPod with you. Then again, you will probably still have a roommate, lights-out and lockdown hours. Maybe to make it a little bit jail-like?

Of course, this is empty speculation, because it hasn’t been made clear what kind of punishment Paris will be handed on Friday. (If any?) I’m pretty sure she won’t be driving that hot rod herself for a while, though. You know, just for safety’s sake.
