Curtains for Couric?

Published on April 24, 2007 at 7:57 AM

The New York Post today published rumors that CBS is looking to dump Katie Couric from the anchor chair. After almost a year (she started work on Sept. 5), CBS’s “Evening News” is still in third place, exactly where it sat before Katie sailed in from “Today,” and her salary is a cool $15 million a year. Not exactly a return on investment, or that’s what “insiders” are supposedly saying, so the network wants to get rid of her after the 2008 presidential election.

It’s sad that Couric and CBS hasn’t shown improvement in a year, but replacing her could get really messy — I’m sure she has a contract, so you can’t just hand her a box and tell her to start packing. Plus, these rumors may have been spread by Bob Schieffer, who filled in as anchor before Katie got there (and who may be jealous of all her screen time). What do you think? Is a year long enough to change America’s mind? Does anyone here actually watch the evening new
