Billboard Awards in review
Posted on December 5th, 2006 by rizzleDid you catch the 2006 Billboard Music Awards held at the Las Vegas’ MGM Grand Garden Arena last night? If not, here’s a quick break down of some of the winners in no particular order.
* 17-year-old Chris Brown took home new artist of the year, male artist of the year, artist of the year.
* R&B diva Mary J. Blige took home nine awards, including R&B/Hip-Hop artist of the year, female R&B artist of the year, and R&B/Hip-Hop album of the year.
* Newcomer Rihanna won best female artist of the year.
* Country crossover Carrie Underwood’s “Some Hearts” won both country album and album of the year. She was also named female country artist of the year.
* Atlanta rapper T.I. took home rap artist of the year and rap album of the year for his fourth solo album, “King.”
* Canadian rockers Nickelback’s “All the Right Reasons,” won rock album of the year and artist-duo/group of the year.
The Billboard Awards are given to the year’s chart-topping artists and the winners are determined by the magazine’s year-end chart listings, which are based on record sales and airply. Here are a few pics from the red carpet…
