To wear Skinny Jeans or Not…
Posted on September 18th, 2006 by Hot Momma![]() |
As a self-proclaimed celebrity fashion expert..hehe..I am embarassed to ask the following question..but I MUST…Skinny Jeans…what’s your take on them? And this is why I ask. I bought myself a pair this weekend! I know what you are thinking…“What? HotMomma how could you?” I know…I know…call it a lapse in judgement..(Okay..it wasn’t a lapse..I had been planning to buy them for a week) or a last ditch effort to look cool and be popular with the kids. I’m not sure why I bought them…but I do know that as a woman who just had a baby 3 1/2 weeks ago..skinny jeans are NOT a flattering option. |
BUTTTT…here’s my rationale..skinny jeans are rarely flattering on anybody..so if their point is solely to be ’stylish’ and NOT flattering..than they have accomplished their goal on my 5′2, ham hock legged body. That said…would you wear something that made you look short and chubby just to look cool? Wait..are skinny jeans even cool? I have no idea..I need your input! I may just end up by returning them…lemme know!

I personally would not wear skinny pantscause i am sure they would make me look fat> I had my first baby a year ago and still strugglign to lose those extra nasty pounds. I don’t recall anyone that look hot on those pants
You do not look cool it they do not look right. It probably makes you look like you are just trying to hard to look cool. Ditto the PP- I have yet to see anyone they actually look good on. OK, well Kate Moss, but nobody looks like her other than herself.
I really don’t think that they are all that flattering on anybody.
I like them :0)
Not to wear:)
i bought my fist pair last weekend.im 13,and try to look as emo as posible.so yeah.they look great
They are awful most of the time! I think the only time I *might* wear them is this winter w/ some Uggs because it’s just easier to stick the bottoms in that boot cut jeans.
No way. I’m sticking with what works for me. I’ll wear things that are trendy, but only an age appropriate variation of the trend. I don’t want to look like I’m trying to look like a teenager.
And anyway, skinny jeans look FUGLY on everyone I’ve seen wear them!!!
But you could probably pull it off.
“Hell to the NO” to quote Whitney Houston. They are so UGLY!
I don’t think they are flattering on anyone. I personally would not wear them.
Not flattering on ANYONE - return them!!! Long live the boot cut
Run! do not walk to Return them!
I stand by boot cut jeans are the greatest thing to come out yet!!
I had A SH&% TON of skinny jeans in the 80’s when I was in middle school, but I think that anyone over the age of say 15 looks horrible in them just because of the way our bodies change. They accentuate the hips and cinch in the ankles making you look like a funnel. I.e. NOT ATTRACTIVE. Even these super skinny waifs look awful in them because they make them look even more waiflike, but the alter affect is true for all the non-waifs = fat and dumpy. Ladies, let’s all rally together and boycott the skinny jeans. Let’s leave the 80’s in the 80’s and progress into the future with a more educated and flattering way of dressing ourselves. Long-Live the Boot-cut!!
Why not just buy a pair of leggings? The look is the same and they are more comfortable….they still look like HELL though!
I think Stacy and Clinton would give skinny jeans two thumbs down. They make your ankles look skinny and put a lot of focus on your hips and rump. Skinny jeans do not look good on anyone (even skinny people). Is it too late to get a refund?
yea, i can totally see your point hotmomma, sometimes a trend can be hard to ignore. you can even start to wonder if other people see things you just dont (i think uggs are a good example, i fought that trend for a while- lets face it they’re ugly, their comfort bought them a spot in my closet) however, i recently come to the conclusion that that if it doesnt flatter my figure its not worth it (even when that means eventually biting the bullet and going *gasp* up a size.
in conclusion, the truth is they are just not attractive on any level so i think you will thank yourself in 3 months when you dont have to see them still sitting lifeless in your denim drawer un-loved and un worn. in their place you could have a hot new pair of citizen’s that always look great and youll feel sexy wearing!
return ‘em momma.
I agree with Kathryn, You don’t look cool if they look bad. I would never wear them because I think they’re awful.
RETURN THEM IMMEDIATELY!
Hell no! They are horrible! I think this is a fashion fad that will disappear quickly. They are just wrong. WRONG I SAY!
Return them. They are awful looking
i agree return them~

i believe “skinny jeans” are ok if you get them in a longer cut. then they bunch up aroung the ankles and it looks cute.
show us a pic hot momma!! i bet they’ll look great on you.
They were aful in the 80’s and they are still awful now. Return ‘em!
Ick ick ick! Return them!
Honestly, what’s the point of being trendy if you don’t look good? Looking good never goes out of style!
DON’T do it! they’re hideous. don’t ruin your adoraable figure with pants that make supermodels look disproportioned! that should tell us all something,if the most beautiful women in the world look terrible in something, the rest of us better not even think about trying it!!!!
I broke down and tried a pair on last week- unfortunately, they are not going anywhere for at least 2 more seasons, so I figured I’d try.
I have a boyish figure, so they actually looked really good on me- still haven’t bought them though- I had them when I was 14 and it’s REALLY hard to go back……
i think they are horrible!!! ugh!!!
Gee, how old are you people? Trends are trends. I think you can have fun with experimentation but still look your age. Yeah the other mommies in my playgroup probably thought “WTF?” when I showed up in leggings one day, but who cares. I’m freakin’ 25. JCrew, Chico’s and Gap just don’t appeal to me…
HotMomma, I think you can pull it off. About the problem of looking dumpy–why not get one of those long sweaters or tunics to go with your skinny jeans? Or even better, Urban Outfitters has a ton of really cute housedresses that hit mid thigh. Go to their site for cute ideas. Add some heels, and rock the skinny jeans. Hot momma fo’ sho.
Take them back - no need to look bad just because you want to look ‘in syle’ seriosuly.
i too was afraid, very afraid, of the skinny jeans look. i am not super skinny, but not exactly carrying too much extra either. well, i finally broke down and got a pair. it took me one time of wearing them to get over the negative self-hatred, and now i love love love them. and i have a little junk, ladies. the key is to cover the junk. i’ve even rocked them cuffed up once with flats. *Sharp inhale*
i say the best way to ease in is with heels and a tunic. if you wear something that hits at the thigh there’s no reason you can’t wear them unless you’re a size 14 or larger, i’d say. then you get into the size of the top looking a bit questionable, and the proportions are all off. not that there’s anything wrong with a size 14 or 16, people, i’m just ball-parking. some trends are not for all. HotMomma you look amazing and should get on this. You’re too hot not too!
I am a chubby grl and I would wear them IF I can find a cute little dress to go over them. I would never ever wear them with a short shirt. I have a baby pooch. If only I was brave enough for a tummy tuck. I heard they were extremely painful.
HM, I admit it too…I have been thinking about it just b/c they are in. LOL. But my body is not fit for skinny jeans. I love the 80’s striped shirt look & I think it looks super cute with skinny jeans. That’s why I’ve been debating. I’ve just been wearing flares or boot cuts b/c they somewhat look skinny & flatter my body a lot better. I’m torn.
Dear Hot Momma,
If you are the Hot Momma that you proclaim, then you should where those skinny jeans! they are sexy and young and rock and roll.
Wear them with a really tall pair of heels, poke a hole in the back and guide your heal though it, it makes them look like leggings and makes your legs look super long. Or roll them up and wear them with some sneaks. Your a sexy momma, how can you let a pair of jeans get a good bitch down?
ps. love your website, im addicted
Um, to me short & stubby is never going to look cool. Usually I can look at people and tell who’s style is geniune, and who is just TRYING. If it looks like you’re trying, the outfit is ruined.
On top of that if you don’t feel 100% comfortable in them that’s going to show. And you won’t feel good. And you probably won’t wear them more than twice, lol.
So if you like the pants, wear them. If you’re iffy, take them back. Personally I think skinny jeans are UGLY but I guess they could be cute with a sweater dress or something like that.
Unless you’re Kate Moss, it’s just not a good look!
Unless you are a tooth pick (meaning no shape) and are at least 5′7 then no- stay away from skinny jeans. Most people can’t wear them.
Ok Hot Momma here is the jean test. If you put them on and you look like Nicky Hilton…don’t return them…burn them and then drink yourself silly to erase the horror from your memory. (make sure the baby is with a sitter before you partake in the alcohol tho)
Well, I’m 5′ 10″ (178cm), and skinny jeans look GREAT on me!!
look. skinny jeans.
There’s just no other POSSIBLE answer.
THEY ARE HORRIBLE CREATIONS CRAFTED BY THE FASHION DEVIL.
ahem.
sorry.
but it’s true.
Don’t forget to “tight roll” them!
As a fellow short girl; 5′1 to be exact, I want to try out the new skinny pant look as well. Are we aloud to wear heals w/ these? If I wore flats w/ leggings or any “skinny pant”, I would blend in w/ all the 5th graders on my kindergardener’s playground.
Skinny jeans don’t look good on anybody. Only Kate Moss. And still they’re not exactly flattering, they’re only fashionable.
Take them back! They rarely look good on anybody! Boot cut is much nicer. That’s my two cents!
I personally will not wear skinny jeans. I’m 5′3″ and a momma and they just don’t work for me. I never gave into capris either (because on my legs they look like highwaters). I find it more important to wear clothes that look good and make me feel confident than clothes that are currently in style. If you’re not sure you like them, return them and you can always re-purchase them later if you change your mind!
“I find it more important to wear clothes that look good and make me feel confident ”
yes! yes! yes! That is the best style of all. Its about STYLE not trends
A friend of mine bought some and wore them this past weekend and looked HOT!!!! She also has an incredible body. If I had that body, I would totally get them, and weart them with some super high heals. I’m telling you, that if you could pull them off with your body (which I’ve seen you, and I know you could) GO FOR IT!!
Return them! Kate Moss is bringing the ‘boot cut’ back anyway!
they do not good on even the smallest person..sorry….
lol 5:38! i totally did that, with two or three different colors of socks to match my shirt…aaahhhhh!
i don’t wear anything that would make me look pudgy. or be the butt of the joke because i’m wearing of some kind of ridiculous fashion just to look cool.
skinny jeans - i am still *recuperating* from the 70s and 80s fashion that i went through. so the answer to skinny jeans is - no. and to wear it with flat shoes? ugh! HIDEOUS.
get them in solid black, no fading whatsoever, and wear them with heels. Then they will look good. I too had tried them in a variety of brands, but found that solid black is flattering and even makes me look skinny… go for it! it’ll make you feel like audrey hepburn, but not the freaky audrey on the gay commercial!
IMO just because something is “in” does not mean its attractive. “in” simply means celebrities happen to be wearing it. the plain truth is “skinny” jeans are hideously ugly, even on the smallest person. the silhouette defies all laws of fashion. balance is so important when it comes to aesthetics. the tight/tapered bottom has always been offensive. whats next are we going to try to defend scrunchies and shoulder pads next week? fug is fug and theres no talking your way out of it.
not to mention isnt the whole idea behind fashion to have some individuality? trend following does nto constitute fashion or style.
I love skinny jeans. I saw Stacey on the Today Show, and she likes skinny jeans, for the right people. She recommended them for petites.

I think skinny jeans are fab tucked in boots, and with platform pumps. And if you are thin or tall enough, they are great with flats too.
Yous hould have kept them hot mamma, you looked good in them.
i think some of you gals are missing the point. fashion is supposed to be fun. and while i subscribe wholeheartedly to the “if it’s flattering, it’s always in style” theory, i also have to say that after trying the skinny jean, i actually feel more accepting of my so-called flaws. it was therapeutic, learning to rock these jeans. and if you aren’t critical while wearing them, then it doesn’t look like you’re trying too hard. we really should not be so hard on ourselves! within reason, with the right things covered up, this is not the worst trend. i mean truthfully, what, they actually show off the shape of your legs, even if your hips/ass are covered by a longer shirt/tunic/dress? from the knee down is the best feature for many of us, so why not embrace it. hmph.
no way, I still haven’t lost my baby weight from two and a half years ago! HAHA
if you have to ask for other people’s opinions on how skinny jeans fit you rather than rely on your own fashion sense then obviously your not comfortable with skinny leg, otherwise you wouldn’t have asked.
I’m tall and skinny and I’d definitely never wear them. If they make Mischa Barton’s hips looks big (and they do) they’ll sure as Hell make mine look big too.
This might sound a bit weird but after seeing dozens of people talking about “skinny jeans”, I decided to Google “skinny jeans are ugly” just for kicks.
I have to agree, they look really bad and thats coming from a dude. I think bootcut/flare jeans look alot better, and thats with any shoe, sneakers or high heels!
I personally love skinny jeans. Everybody has been doing bootcut for the last 10 years, and I think a change was needed. Skinny jeans allow you to show of cool boots, and flats, and tunic tops. True, you do have to be thin and hipless to wear them, but they give off a retro rocker vibe that fits with the current trends. People who don’t like them are usually people who like to play it “safe” and are somewhat old-fashioned. Get with the times skinny jeans are in.
p.s. That is not a photo of Paris Hilton, that’s her much classier sister Nicky.
it looks good on everyone try it
I look cute in skinny jeans…so I don’t know what everyone else is talking about.
I think that if your NOT emo or Scene, you SHOULD NOT be wearing skinnys! people only wear them now because alot of emo;s have been dressing whats Normal to them. Most people wear them now to try to BE emo or scene, i think that if your a poseur, (yes thats the way to spell it…) then you shouldn’t try too hard…
And yes, some people do wear them if they arent emo, who cares, Plus Hot Mama, you looked GREAT in those jeans!
