I’m a little behind on the Brangelina baby news, but what’s with the name?

What happended to the $5 mil they were going to donate for selling their babies picture? I just don’t like her, not one bit.

wow, $300,000 is not enough for you? are you kidding? the millions that they are going to donate is off the bidding war of the tabloids for the first pics of their baby. this 300k is out of their own damn pockets and that’s not enough for you people, hunh? i guess it’s better to hold useless celebrities and musicians who have no clue of what goes on outside of Hollywood on pedestals rather than acknowledge the GOOD that Angelina and Brad do selflessly for the well being of children all over the world. Wow that is awesome! Good for them for donating, I can only imagine how useful their money will be to the people in that hospital.

What about the children here in the U.S.? Why doesn’t she donate to their well being? The kids with cancer or autism? She wouldn’t stoop to adopting an American child! What a farce. It is about compassion and being a good human being.

I lived in S. Africa for a long time I have seen that poverty first hand, and trust me - if I had a big donation to make - it would be to Africa. Not that I don’t love or cherish the people in the US - but it’s my perogative and thankfully their are people who will give money to US charities as well.

Honestly 300-K is a lot to you and I, but not for someone who has millions. I have seen a pic of their multimillion dollar French house, and his CA home. They are loaded so 300-K is not all that much. I think it’s great that they are donating, but im not going to cream in my panties b/c it’s “300-K”!! As for her adopting a U.S. child, she has stated that she adopts these children because she has seen first hand what they go through, and she wants to give them a better life.

Does the US have the same issues?

As for how much they donate, who cares, it’s more then was donated before.

I mean look at Indonesia after the Tsumani, we helped out like crazy.
And they returned the favor when Katrina struck.

They didn’t have too, hell they are STILL picking up the pieces, so to speak.

$300,000 & $15,000 will go a long way to the two locations getting the donations.

They have donated $5MILLION to Unicef for the baby’s first picture.

But some of you seem to think that they sold their soul because of it.

If they hadn’t donated any money, maybe this debate wouldn’t be going on at all.

I have a lot to say, sure, as do all these others who claim to know a lot about Brad/Angie/Jen/Vince as well. I simply stated that these people must know their accountants personally to whine about the money they chose to donate. $315,000 is a decent amount.
At least they donate money to good causes, and bring awareness to where it’s needed worldwide.
As a matter of fact I have met Angelina, but I don’t know her personally enough to act like I know their finances.
I didn’t say that our issues in the US aren’t bad. But it’s not fair to jump on Brad/Angie because they donated money to this African country. The blame SHOULD go on the shoulders of the politicians.
They can help those who need the help, but how many of them make sure their pockets are full, while they turn their nose on the poor?
It goes on the shoulders of those who chose to take office. They make promises to help and then do nothing. They are the ones we go to when it comes to helping our welfare. They can make the changes. And the ones before them could have as well.. It’s a domino affect, you know that you will be facing all the unanswered questions that the person before you promised to fix but ignored.
You want backing? Do a simple google search, for your local congress, see what you can find out. There are countless promises that were made by various politicians who then back out of it once elected.
And I didn’t bash Jen, I like Jen, but someone else had made a statement about Angie being a “top notch actress”, I was simply doing a comparison of the two. Jen won awards for her role as Rachel Source, Angie won a few awards for George Wallace Source and an Oscar for Girl, Interrupted. Source. Unfortunately Jen has had bad luck when it comes to good movie roles. The Good Girl was critically acclaimed. Friends With Money was panned. They both are wonderful woman, just live in the media spotlight.

Bringing her up just is a point in the story that everyone else always brings up.

It’s not that they donated money that all of you fools are bitching about, its the AMOUNT?!

Here’s a rundown of the salary made:
Angelina Jolie: (just her recent films that are listed at imdb)
Mr. & Mrs. Smith $10,000,000
Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life $12,000,000
Lara Croft: Tomb Raider $7,000,000

So based on her income she should have donated: 2.9 Million to charity.

And based on Brad’s income: (too many to list)
Salary listing here he should have donated: $17 Million. (oh wait I forget his other assests)

But wait, let’s figure this out now, they donated $315,000 just to this community, and then we are forgetting the $5 Million to UNICEF.

Let’s see now:
315,000 + 5,000,000 = 5,315,000 Million donated to charity because of their daughter.
And that thus beats the 1/100 of her income PER FILM based on the above (for Angelina) because that shows the amount that would be donated by her income per film at being $2.9 Million.

She donated ABOVE the 1/100 amount you say she should be.

What about all the other money she’s donated?

She’s donated in excess of $3 Million last year alone per Forbes.
In 2003 she pledged $5 Million to set up a wildlife sanctuary in Cambodia Source.

So Angelina & Brad are suppose to be the only celebs to donate worldwide?
She donates where it’s needed.
And she has a love for Africa, so if she feels the need to donate there, who cares.
It’s her money.
There are PLENTLY of celebs who donate to the US.

Why the debate over the amount she donated to them?
At least they now have $300,000 to aid in a country where 48 in a 1000 babies die because of inproper health care.
To them that is a lot of money.
And they have brought attention to this area now, so they in that manner have brought forth more money to these people, with more aware of the issues.

I did momentarily forget that it was in fact People magazine who was donating the $5 Million to Unicef.

But it still doesn’t say she hasn’t donated large sums before, to these charities.

A needy charity that receives donations, no matter how large or small doesn’t care the size, they simply care that someone cared enough to donate out of their own pockets to aid them.

To put it plainly, americans simply expect celebrities to put up the money to aid american’s issues, when we can get off our asses and do something about it ourselves, but chose to bitch about it instead of doing something about it.

Do you aid with under privilaged children who would otherwise be overlooked because you are too good to assist them.
Try putting your wallet where your mouth is first, and help out yourself.

I believe Angelina gave $1 million towards the Katrina recovery–it was listed in a news article about which celebrities had donated to the recovery effort. So she does contribute towards the US in addition to other countries.

I think what the person you are all refering to was trying to grasp, and I could be wrong here, but from the tone of many of the comments here, it’s coming across as many are complaining about the AMOUNT donated, not that money was donated, and where, just the amount.
One person ahs said that they should have donated 1/100 of their income per film.
And in that arguement, it’s rather ignorant to complain about the amount, as long as it’s a donation. Period.
And it’s awareness to a country in need.
Most americans would have no idea of the devestation going on over there if it weren’t for various celebrities who donate their money and time to these locations.
But it’s unfair to attack them based on the amount donated. And to say that they ignore their own backyard, when in fact they don’t ignore it, they just don’t speak as openly about it. Why should they, when we as americans already are well aware of the issues we face as a country? (that’s directed to the americans on the board, seeing as I’m certain that there are others who read this board that aren’t living in the US)
This whole thing appears to have started out as a “debate” of sorts over the amount.
Some were complaining that the amount was simply low considering the amount they make.
But no one has brought up the things that Brad himself has been trying to help do in New Orleans, nor until recently the money Angelina donated to the Katrina efforts.
When is any monetary donation too little? It’s never too little in my eyes, seeing as it is money that was not there to aid any charity prior to the donation.
So why not let’s all stop complaining on the amount donated, or whether or not she/he donates to their birthplace.
It’s a great thing no matter how much money or time is given. Just that awareness has been brought to those needy areas.
You want change here in the US? Do something yourself about it. As the person stated, help out with local charities such as Big Brothers/Big Sisters, give time to a soup kitchen. Donate money to CHKD, St. Jude, March of Dimes.
Do something other then complain on a celebrity who donated time and money to aid of newborns, and school aged children.
Who cares about what has gone on in her life. Who cares that she got involved with Brad while he was still married to Jen.
That really isn’t our business to disect. Sure this is a gossip community, and we all love to read the latest and greatest news about our favorite celebs. but if you don’t like them, don’t read about them. That is a private issue that was between Jen, Brad, Angelina, and Vince. How would you like your marriage and relationships to be fodder for people? Yes they signed away their “rights” to privacy when they became a celebrity. But then again that’s incorrect, because look at how many have kept their private life just that, private? Some have moved to Europe because they respect their privacy.
Many americans do not seem to grasp that fact, and just think they have the rights to invade such a space.
