UPDATE: After these pictures surfaced on the internet, a frantic Britney Spears along with her PR team went on a rampant media blitz, offering the public an explanation. This is what she says in an exclusive statement to People Magazine,
“Today I had a horrifying, frightful encounter with the paparazzi while I was with my baby. Because of a recent incident when I was trapped in my car without my baby by a throng of paparazzi, I was terrified that this time the physically aggressive paparazzi would put both me and my baby in danger. I instinctively took measures to get my baby and me out of harm’s way, but the paparazzi continued to stalk us, and took photos of us which were sold to the media. I love my child and would do anything to protect him.”

I always try to ride hard for Britney and defend her when people call her trailer trash and stuff but I find this totally inexcusable and dumb. The baby is not even that old. My kids are 3 and 4 and they have never been near the front seat. She decides to do something dumb and blame the paparazzi. Whats more dangerous, a baby trapped in the backseat safe in a car seat or if she stops suddenly and he flies through the windshield.
If she gets in a car accident and her airbag inflates, he would be killed instantly. What an idiot! 12 year children aren’t even supposed to be in the front seat for this reason!
The Flashing of cameras is too dangerous for the baby….so lets put him on the lap of a driver in a moving vehicle on a major highway…
You people need to chill. Since when did anyone elect you judge? Are you perfect? Are you Martha Stewart? Miss Manners?
Did she have an accident and her baby die? Is she the first person on the planet to do this? Should she go to jail?

No One has mentioned that she is BREAKING THE LAW. Not only is having her baby on her lap sooo dangerous- it is against the law. There is NO excuse for what she is doing. I don’t want to hear “oh she’s young” or “she’s a first time mom” I’m sorry I just had a baby 6 months ago- you don’t make a mistake like that- for ANY reason. I hope she gets prosectued for this. It makes me sick. And I’m not a Brittany hater- I actually like her most of the time- but this has totally changed that.

I love Britney, but…I would have slapped her back into sanity. Why didn’t the person in the front seat with her, just get in the back with the baby and shield him with his/her body?! better that then taking the chance that the baby could go flying thru the winshield into a certain DEATH. She is officially CRAZY!
There is aboslutely no reason for doing this – it’s illegal and it’s WAY more dangerous than some photographers taking *gasp* pictures of the baby!
Any respect that I had for Britney Spears is now gone.
AND, if someone took pictures of me driving around with my 6 month old child on my lap, social services would probably take the baby from me the next day.

what is she going to do when she has two? balance one on the dashboard? and wtf, why aren’t her driver and passenger windows tinted? why only the back windows? she needs to give that bodyguard something to do besides talking on his phone, um, like maybe drive her, while she’s in the back strapping the baby in.

What an idiot! Yes, I see that THRONG of papparazi…. The law states that a child under the age of 8 years old must be in a car seat in the back seat(under 6 mths requires a rear-facing, reclined car seat), and a child may not sit in the front seat until the age of 12. This is called reckless endangerment of a child. You and I would have our children taken away for such actions, and Britney should not get a “break” because she is rich or famous or a pop star. The rules are for everybody and they are there for a reason…

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it’s not the “tree-hugging hippies” who are having all the babies. It’s the anti-abortion, religious assholes who say “OOH, every baby deserves to be born, no matter what!”

Gadzooks! With such a lapse of judgement one has to think Brittany has been hanging out with K-Feds pot smoking friends and eating squirrels from the side of the road! Take that baby away from her, she is willing to to anything to protect Sean PRESTON & STEVE except strapping him into the car seat which is the most important thing!
Maybe put her in some kind of Parenting School but not take the baby away from her.
It is so hard to be a good and perfect parents, as a working mom of 3 kids I should know. Give her a second chance, we all know what she did was very stupid and we are all thinking “What in the hell did she do that for?”.
What’s done is done, we are all just glad nothing bad happened to her baby……and I bet all of you guys that she regrets that she had done this and she will never do it again ( I hope)…..taking your baby away from you is like killing you inside and out. Every female in the world who had given birth should know that while you’re having baby you are giving half of your life.
So Britney my advise to you is “THINK!!!” before you do some very, very dumb things to your baby…….

She acted impulsively, did’t think. Not saying it’s the right thing to do, but haven’t you ever just “reacted” without thinking, and then later thought “Gee, I shouldn’t have done this, I should have done that…”
It’s really easy for us to sit here and be armchair judges, but we don’t know anything about the life she or any other celebrity leads when the cameras are off.
Give her a ticket and a fine and make her take a parenting class or safe-driving class or something. Then get over it. It’s not really that important, and is far from “stomach-turning” or a reason to be sent to jail. If Joe Schmo on the street got sent to jail for it, you know there’d be people complaining that it’s “not fair” and “too harsh”.
